Tibet House Yoga: practice on the Vajra Yoga Path
These ongoing classes provide instruction in therapeutic breathing-and-movement practice as a foundation for meditation. Guided by themes of the Indo-Tibetan Buddhist and Hindu Yoga traditions, sessions are designed to increase physical strength, stability and flexibility while cultivating concentration and mindful awareness. The goal of these practices is to awaken the natural healing capacity and loving nature of the individual’s body and mind.
Come learn a yoga practice to strengthen your body, enliven your nervous system, and explore your subtle inner world. These classes teach yoga based on the therapeutic breathing-and-movement system of the Ashtanga Yoga tradition as a foundation for meditation practices inspired by the Indo-Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Folding posture, breath, awareness, and compassionate intention into the path, these classes align the traditional Ashtanga “sadhana” (a means of achieving your goal) with the inner contemplative disciplines of pranayama and meditation, reconnecting the practice to its roots at the foot of Mt. Kailash in Tibet (according to the Ashtanga lore).
Classes are taught “Mysore” style, meaning that practice is individualized according to a student’s abilities and needs. Along with instruction in the core breathing-movement method of the Ashtanga sequences, classes include an introduction to meditation and guided meditation practice.
In the led class, students practice in unison; Mysore practice classes provide individualized instruction. All levels are welcome in either class.
Both types of session include meditation and yoga instruction based on the breathing-movement system of Ashtanga Yoga.
Please Note:
Newcomers to Ashtanga Yoga are encouraged to attend the sessions in person. Led practices are offered online or in person. The in person sessions are highly recommended for beginners due to the emphasis on one t0 one guidance provided by the teachers.
