In this workshop, we will continue with the Vajra Yoga processes we have been developing and will focus on the transformative power of mantra, Talks will explore the meaning of mantra through the insights of Buddhist and Classical Indian inner sciences, connecting yoga with the devotional practices known as bhakti, while practice sessions will teach the yogic use of visualization and vocalization.
On Friday night, renowned scholar of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism Bob Thurman speaks on mantra as a special language force capable of aligning the everyday conditions of speech with the naturally awakened buddha-field energies.. He explains the concept of the archetypical “seed syllables” emerging from the Sanskrit alphabet, devanagri “City of the Gods,” whose sounds and shapes harmonize with the energetics of the vajra body. The mantra practice of White Tara will be introduced as the main example of an enlightened “speech energy” underlying ordinary communication. Sessions on
Saturday-Sunday’s provide opportunities for experiencing mantra in the context of various practice modalities, including classes in postural yoga, pranayama, and meditation. A main focus throughout the workshop will be on White Tara and harmonizing with the subtle body in breathwork.
*Chairs are provided as needed for the Friday night lecture and meditation.
*Saturday andSunday’s yoga practice sessions involve active movement, so please dress accordingly.
*All practices can be adapted for students with physical limitations. Yoga mats are provided.
