Nazneen Patel, an Indian-Muslim born in Queens, is a public educator, school leader & facilitator based in NYC. Nazneen studied Political Science & South Asian Languages & Civilizations at The University of Chicago and has an MA in South Asian Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Before becoming a school leader, Nazneen worked in media, academia and taught elementary & middle school students in historically marginalized communities in Philadelphia and New York City. Nazneen’s work in public education is based on the fundamental belief that “The classroom remains the most radical space of possibility.” (bell hooks) She is passionate about supporting youth & teachers to engage in meaning & connection-making between the local & global and using this deepening understanding to empower them to take action against oppression wherever they see it operating, including in themselves.
