Geshe Chamba Tonyut was born in the border region of Ladakh,India into a Tibetan Buddhist family. He entered the monastery 1981 when he was 11 years old. He took his novice ordination precepts from Kyabje Yangzin Ling Rinpoche, one of two great senior tutors of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He completed the Geshe Lharam pa degree (the highest degree in the Guluk tradition) and, in 1992, took full ordination vows from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He travels to monasteries throughout India and internationally to teach monks, visitors, and universities how to share the dharma teachings and how to facilitate daily prayer and meditation practice.
