Tenzin Choegyal is an artist, composer, activist, and cultural ambassador. One of the world’s finest musicians in the Tibetan tradition, he is a bona fide master of the lingbu (bamboo flute) and dranyen (3-stringed lute), but is best known for his extraordinary vocal ability.
Born the son of Tibetan nomads, Tenzin feels a particular affinity with the music of the high Himalayan plateau, and he is dedicated to preserving Tibet’s musical traditions. At the same time, he effortlessly embraces contemporary music styles. His past recorded works include collaborations with Philip Glass ( White Lama production & The Last Dalai Lama?) and the 2021 Grammy-nominated Songs from the Bardo with Laurie Anderson & Jesse Paris Smith with Smithsonial Folkways.
During the pandemic, Tenzin released Yeshi Dolma” with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra and Apo Gaga with his band Tibet2Timbuk2. Forced into exile from his native Tibet, Tenzin now resides in Australia. In 2023 he will release new music produced by acclaimed Australian artist Matt Corby through his Rainbow Valley Records label.
